John's Island and
Indian River Shores

Life on John's Island. Private. Privileged. Paradise.
A serene and rare 1650-acre expanse surrounded by unspoiled islands, nine miles of Intercoastal Waterway and three miles of private beaches.

Welcome to John's Island, a family-oriented community of history and heritage where the dreams of one man became a reality. Ask the families who live here what they like most about John’s Island, and they’ll tell you it’s the lifestyle and the people. Located “where the tropics begin,” ocean breezes prevail and moderate temperatures average 74 degrees. Exquisite English, Georgian, and West Indies architecture, games of golf and sport, waterfront and dining amenities — all gently wrapped in the abundant natural landscape, where access is carefully controlled and security is provided around-the-clock.

Discovered by a man who found a property so splendid, so unique, that could not, would not be spoiled by development, it has been called the perfect union of man and nature. Snarled ancient oaks trees dripping with moss and bromeliads stand among gumbo limbo trees, sabal palms, sea hibiscus, crinum lilies, and coco plum hedgerows. Mangroves fringe the Island and provide sanctuary for hundreds of exquisite waterbirds including the roseate spoonbill, great blue heron, ibis and snowy egret. The John’s Island Preservation Society has designated common areas as wildlife and bird sanctuaries for the enjoyment of all John’s Island residents.

Today, John's Island is a 1,650-acre, barrier island masterpiece situated within the quaint town of Indian River Shores just north of Vero Beach. Although small, Indian River Shores is brimming with exquisite architecture, culture, gourmet cuisine, a charming shopping village, and award-winning emergency and medical response teams. Approximately 3,700 affluent people occupy Indian River Shores, almost half of which represent John's Island residents. The Town provides law enforcement, fire protection and emergency medical services through its well-regarded Public Safety Department. A Postal Center and Community Center are other services in which our residents and neighbors enjoy. Indian River Shores ideally reflects and enhances the vision of the John's Island community.
