The Treasure Coast community, known for its reputation as a haven for the uber-rich, has been featured in two prominent national media outlets, one of which is the Wall Street Journal. On Saturday, it published a glowing travel piece on Vero Beach featuring its local beaches, outdoor activities, the famous John’s Island community and Gloria Estefan’s Costa d’Este resort. The story touted the region as a quiet getaway for the wealthy — away from the flashy glitz of Miami and Palm Beach County.
The story reportedly generated high interest on the Wall Street Journal’s Web site.
“It was the second most e-mailed story over the weekend ...I was shocked,” said Laura Landro, author of the story who has been visiting Indian River County since 1998. Landro wrote in her travel piece, “Vero’s dual communities make for an interesting mix; there are biker bars, seafood joints and kitschy surf shops alongside chi-chi restaurants and designer boutiques.”
